Christmas traditions vary from family to family. These traditions include putting up the Christmas tree, hanging the lights, Christmas stockings, candy canes, special ornaments, family recipes, and celebrating the birth of our Savior. Simple traditions that warm our hearts and make us smile.
Growing up I never really thought much about traditions. However, I loved putting up the Christmas tree and visiting my grandparents.
When my boys were little, we started a new tradition. Every year on Christmas Eve we celebrate the birth of Jesus with a Happy Birthday Jesus party.
In Matthew 2:11 we read about the wise men who came bearing gifts for Jesus. “And going into the house they saw the child with Mary his mother, and they fell down and worshiped him. Then, opening their treasures, they offered him gifts, gold and frankincense, and myrrh.” These were the most valued treasures of that time.
However, there is no limit to the treasure we have in Jesus. Christmas is not about a season. It is about a person. Let us remember to celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior not just at Christmas but all the year. Jesus is truly the tradition that warms our hearts and makes us smile!
